Jeevit Nadi Session – 4 (2026–27)

On 8th October 2026, 42 students of Grade 7 assembled in the A.V. Room for the fourth Jeevit Nadi session, facilitated by members of the Jeevit Nadi team. The session focused on the four ecosystem services provided by rivers.

Objectives of the Session

  • To understand the interdependence of biotic and abiotic components in a river ecosystem.
  • To explore the role of rivers in flood control, soil formation, nutrient cycling and groundwater recharge.

The session began with the thought-provoking question, “What does the river give to us and all living beings?” Students explored how rivers support life and maintain ecological balance.

The discussion covered soil erosion, flood control, nutrient cycling, groundwater recharge, and the importance of riparian zones, wetlands and natural springs. Students also learned about the physical, chemical and biological properties of river ecosystems and the impact of human activities on them.

The concept of circularity and interdependence was explained through the relationship between biotic and abiotic components. Students learned about nutrient cycling and the roles of primary, secondary and tertiary consumers in the food chain. The facilitators also explained how riffle sections help oxygenate water and how aquatic plants contribute to natural water purification.

The session concluded with a recap activity that helped students revise the concepts discussed and reinforce their understanding of the vital role rivers play in sustaining life and maintaining ecological balance.
