Founded in 1963, with modest beginning of only 35 students and one Kannada medium school, today at Kaveri Group of Institutes we run two English medium schools offering education from pre-primary up to Std. X, a Kannada medium high school offering high school education to poor children of Kannadigas, a junior college as well as a senior college for undergraduate and post-graduate studies. We have over 7000 students studying in different institutes and staff strength over 400. Our schools to follow CBSE & ICSE syllabus and our colleges are affiliated to the prestigious University of Pune. (Savitribai Phule University)

We believe in providing learner centric education and have always taken the changing needs of students and technological advancements in our stride, providing the latest and best facilities for our students. All our institutes have well equipped facilities – OHP equipped classrooms, computer labs, science labs, electronic labs and libraries. Students are well trained to use modern facilities and equipment. We also have a state of the art Auditorium- Shakuntala J Shetty auditorium with a seating capacity of over 500.

We believe in all round development. Both, in our schools and in our colleges, we provide plenty of opportunities for all round development of students. We also have full-fledged counselling units to help and guide students and build in them self-confidence.

Our expert faculty facilitates learning and guides students to identify their strengths, inclinations, absorb knowledge from the various knowledge sources available in our environment beyond text books and ultimately to choose the right career path. We instil in our students and staff, respect for one another and sensitivity.

We believe that hard work ‘only’ is the key to success. We equip our students with values, knowledge, skills, awareness and self-reliance. We support them to identify their strengths and work them to their advantage. Above all we teach them to be good human beings and to face life with insight, understanding, confidence and balance.

Our History

From 1963 till 2007, the Kannada Sangha, our parent body, established and ran our various educational institutes. With time we decided to go in for growth of our institutions in a different dimension and the need to have a common brand name to represent all our educational institutes was felt. In 2007 a decision was taken to establish ‘Kaveri Group of Institutes’ as brand name representing all the educational institutes of Kannada Sangha.

Under the visionary guidance of our founders Late Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi (our chief mentor) and Late Shri G.M. Shetty (who was deeply passionate about education), Kaveri Group of Institutes took shape over a span of nearly 60 years. From 1963 till 2007, the Kannada Sangha, our parent body, established and ran our various educational institutes. With time we decided take the growth of our institutions in a different direction and felt the need to have a common brand name to represent all our educational institutes. We took important decision establish ‘Kaveri Group of Institutes’ as the brand name to represent all the educational institutes of Kannada Sangha.

A memory of our founder

One day, Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi, my father in law, was approached by his patients. Most of them were poor migrants from Karnataka. They told him that the only Kannada medium school in Pune, a government school, was being closed, and appealed to him for help. Overnight, tables and chairs were gathered and a Kannada medium school was started in a rented premise with only 35 children. This is how Karnataka High School came into being in 1963. Later when a new building was under construction for the English medium school, I remember my father in law, watering the building every day. For the Kannada Sangha, the Kaveri Group of Institutes means a lot. It documents how we have evolved, it symbolizes the dreams of our Founders and reflects our values, social responsibility and goals.”

A timeline of our growth

  • In 1952, a group of dedicated Kannadigas started the Kannada Sangha. At that point in time, our Sangha was mainly a cultural organization.
  • In 1963, we established the Karnatak High school-a Kannada medium school for the children of poor migrants from Karnataka. Our attachment and dedication coupled with a strong feeling of brother hood was the powerhouse behind our initial dream. The school conducted classes in rented premises.
  • In 1966, our school finally moved to its own premises on Ketkar Road, Erandwana, Pune.
  • In 1971, the government of Maharashtra allowed our institution to start an English medium school on a “no grant” basis. We extended the existing premise by acquiring a plot adjacent to it. A new building was constructed to match the growth of our school.
  • In 1989, Karnatak High School (English Medium) moved to a new campus in Ganeshnagar.
  • In 1995, after the sad demise of Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi, Karnatak High School, both English and Kannada medium, were renamed Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi High School to honour his dedication to the Sangha.
  • In 1996, Dr. Kalmadi Shamarao Junior College was established.
  • In 1999, we established Dr Kalmadi Shamrao High school, Ganeshnagar.
  • In 2000 A separate full-fledged school was also started in Aundh. This new initiative provided education from pre-primary up to Std X under one roof.
  • In 2001 our pre-primary school moved to a separate campus and a new building on a plot near our Ganeshnagar campus.
  • In 2005-2006, The Kaveri College of Science and Commerce was established to offer undergraduate courses in science and commerce.
  • In 2007, we established Kaveri Child Nurture Centre to provide a loving and nurturing child care facility.
  • In 2007 we took an important decision establish ‘Kaveri Group of Institutes’ as brand name representing all the educational institutes of Kannada Sangha.
  • In 2007, ‘Kaveri Group of Institutes’ was chosen as brand name to represent all the educational institutes of Kannada Sangha.
  • In 2009 the secondary school moved to a completely new building on the Ganeshnagar campus.
  • In 2011, Kaveri College of Science and Commerce received affiliation from the University of Pune to start M.C.A and M.Sc. (computer science) post-graduate courses.
  • In 2014 Kaveri Gifted Education Centre was established to provide guidance to gifted children as well as their teachers, parents and counsellors.
  • In 2015 We started Kaveri KalaKshetra, an initiative to raise awareness about art forms among the youth.
  • In 2015 We established Kaveri International School (ICSE) in Lohegaon as a further step in our goal of providing quality education.

Dr. Shamarao Kalmadi practiced dignity of labour. An admirable leader with tremendous energy, he was a go getter and appreciated hard work. He commanded respect wherever he went and believed in doing things without any discrimination to caste, creed, colour and economic status. He was an honest, helpful, caring and outspoken person with a good sense of humour and radiated immense kindness along with his dedicated guidance to the Sangha and its endeavours.

Shri G.M Shetty was a visionary was actively involved in the conceptualization and creation of Kaveri Group of Institutes. With his passionate gf education, he played a key role in building this institution.

Auditorium

Our state of the art auditorium “Shakuntala Jagannath Shetty Auditorium” has an ample seating capacity of over 500. It is well equipped with modern amenities viz, air conditioning, high speed elevators, green rooms, VIP rooms, 24×7 generator backup, excellent sound & light system. Its location on the sixth floor of the secondary school Building at Ganeshnagar makes it the perfect place that facilitates us to conduct extensive academic as well as extracurricular activities. The auditorium also hosts the multitude of cultural events conducted by Kannada Sangha. It is also the ideal venue to organize Intra School / Inter School events.

Cultural programs

Initially Kannada Sangha Pune a public trust was mainly cultural organisation established to promote solidarity and companionship among the kannadigas in Pune.
Kannada medium school was started to include the children of financially weak migrants from Karnataka.
Even though we run education institutes cultural programs are part of the Kannada Sangha.

We celebrate rich culture of Karnataka of by organising various cultural programs. We celebrate Naadahabba Dussehra, Karnataka Rajyotsava, Purandaradas Aradhane and Ramnavami. In January our members enjoy picnic and show their talent in our Talent Day programme held on First March every year to celebrate our founder Dr Kalmadi Shamarao’s birthday.
We co sponsor Music, Dance, Drama and Yakshagana programmes with Karnataka Artists and Organisations.
Kannada sangha has started Kannada Language Learning Classes for non kannadigas to encourage understanding and compassion between different culture persons.
