Addressing the Concerns of Parents Session

The session was conducted on 25th March 2023, at 4 pm. The resource person for guiding the concerns of the parents was Mrs. Nidhi Mehta, an identified Menson.

Total 20 parents had attended the session.

Parent’s concerns were how to support gifted children, who dream differently, change decisions constantly, and procrastinate?. Is it preferable for the parents to switch roles in different situations? How can gifted children who are either very perfect or completely imperfect be handled?

Also, parents had concerns about their children using mobile phones for a long duration. They are less productive because of gaming, chatting, YouTube, etc. How the emotions like anger, anxiety, and loneliness be managed?

Mrs. Nidhi Mehta explained her experiences about all these concerns. She addressed that parents need to understand that the gifted child is different than a normal child. So, parents should behave according to their children’s individual pace. Parents are supposed to bear with all kinds of traits these children have. Let them dream, change their decisions, may even procrastinate. Parents should guide them to take some action to fulfill their dreams, decisions, etc.

It is not that important to change parents’ roles, but if one parent is handling the situation, the other should let him/her handle it. There should not be any interference. Parents should explain the pros and cons to the children about the extremities being perfect or imperfect.

In both the cases, like using mobile phones for long hours and handling anger, anxiety, etc. Mrs. Nidhi suggested that the children should be engaged in some hobby like painting, dance, drama, singing, sports, etc. Such hobbies will help children to calm down and to do productive things. Besides this, parents should also avoid using mobiles for more duration.

In a gist, it can be said that lots of doubts about handling gifted adolescent children have been cleared. Dialogue with children is the most important thing to be done in each family. Accept the small obsessions of the child. Preferences should be given to the top three things to be done. All family members can find a comfort zone to have a good talk among themselves.

Overall, the session went smoothly.
