International Walk To School Day

INTERNATIONAL WALK TO SCHOOL DAY

Every year, 4th October is globally celebrated as ‘INTERNATIONAL WALK TO SCHOOL DAY’.

Dr. Kalmadi Shamarao high school Ganeshnagar has been organizing a ‘Walk to school’ day on 14th November (Children’s day), every year for the past 8 years in order to reach a two-fold objective.

  1. Do our bit to save fuel for the conservation of the environment.
  2. Promote walking as a healthy habit among children.

This year as well, all the students and teachers assembled at strategic points in a 2-3 km stretch around school and from there, they walked to school. The bus/van drivers and parents dropped off the students at these points and everyone walked to school with placards.

Every year, an additional theme is chosen along with the points mentioned above. The themes have varied from mental health, to promoting civics responsibilities such as voting, reduce the use of plastic

This year’s theme was to reduce the use of sugar and oil as championed by the government of India initiative led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to combat obesity.

Children created eye catching placards and shouted slogans to reduce the consumption of sugar and oil and focus on healthy eating.

14th Nov was a bagless day for students of grade 5-7 and a range of activities were conducted for the rest of the day to keep them engaged.
