On 22nd December, Grade 7 students of Dr. Kalamadi Shamarao High School, Ganeshnagar organised Dress the Door, a value-based awareness programme rooted in the principles of Jainism. Students brought learning alive through creative classroom door displays along with an engaging stage presentation, effectively linking ancient wisdom with contemporary global concerns.
Each classroom display highlighted a key Jain concept while aligning it with relevant United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
Students traced the origin and core philosophy of Jainism, emphasising learning as a lifelong process.
SDG 4: Quality Education was reflected through the promotion of value-based and inclusive education.
The display focused on compassion, empathy, and peaceful coexistence among all living beings.
This strongly aligned with SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, highlighting the importance of peace at individual and societal levels.
Students showcased the role of honesty and integrity in building a just society.
The concept was linked to SDG 16: Justice, reinforcing ethical conduct and fairness in daily life.
The presentation connected ethical living with social equality and fairness.
This value resonated with SDG 1: No Poverty, stressing respect for others’ rights and equitable use of resources.
Students highlighted self-control, balanced habits, and mental well-being.
The concept was mapped to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, underlining healthy lifestyles and mindful choices.
The display emphasised minimalism and conscious living.
It aligned with SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, encouraging sustainable use of resources.
The stage programme featured lively anchoring and a student skit inspired by the educational visit to Abhay Prabhavana. Through humour and meaningful dialogue, students shared insights on satvik food, Ahimsa, mindful living, and connected Aparigraha with responsible consumption and sustainable lifestyles—demonstrating how ancient values remain relevant in today’s world.
The programme successfully conveyed the message that simple, conscious choices rooted in values can lead to a compassionate, healthy, and balanced way of life, leaving a lasting impact on students and parents alike.
