Dr. Kalmadi Shamarao High School, Ganeshnagar, organised an enriching field trip to Pashan Lake on Thursday, 22 October 2026, in collaboration with the Jeevitnadi team. A total of 53 students from Std. VII and VIII participated in the visit. The main objectives were to observe and identify different bird species, understand their role in the ecosystem, and develop awareness about wetland conservation and biodiversity.
The visit began with an introduction to Pashan Lake and its history. Students were encouraged to use their sense of hearing and observation to experience nature more closely. One memorable activity involved hugging a tree with their eyes closed, helping students develop a deeper connection with nature.
Students also learned about the history of Pashan Lake and its development during British rule. They participated in group activities in which they enacted the changing conditions of the ecosystem, comparing its past and present states.
An exciting part of the visit was birdwatching, during which students spotted birds such as the painted stork, purple heron and grey heron. They also participated in a species-identification game that encouraged careful observation and helped them appreciate the biodiversity of the area.
Overall, the field visit was an enriching learning experience that helped students understand the importance of conserving wetlands, protecting biodiversity and maintaining ecological balance.
