Algebra and Algebraic Thinking 2026

Proud Moment for Dr. Kalmadi Shamarao High School!

We are delighted to share that Ms. Shankari C. Rao, Mathematics Teacher at Dr. Kalmadi Shamarao High School, Ganeshnagar, Pune, was invited as a presenter at the national online workshop on “Algebra and Algebraic Thinking”, jointly organised by Azim Premji Universityand the Mathematics Teachers’ Association (India) on 12th July 2026. The workshop brought together middle school mathematics educators from across the country to share their experiences of implementing the new NCERT Mathematics textbooks (Grades 6–8) and to engage in meaningful discussions on strengthening algebraic thinking in classrooms.

 

Ms.Shankari Rao presented her work on Nurturing Algebraic Thinking through Inquiry and Pattern Exploration – Grade 7 NCERT Ganit Prakash, where she shared innovative classroom practices that encourage students to discover mathematical relationships through inquiry, pattern recognition, generalisation, and reasoning, enabling a smooth transition from arithmetic to algebra.

 

The workshop commenced with an inspiring address by Dr. Jonaki Ghosh, President, Mathematics Teachers’ Association (India). It also featured an enriching expert panel discussion with distinguished mathematics educators:

  • Mr. Shravan S. K, Senior Consultant, NCERT
  • Ms. Padmapriya Shirali, Educator, Community Math Centre, Valley School, Bengaluru
  • Dr. Ravi K. Subramaniam, Former Director, Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (TIFR), Mumbai
