Library department of Dr. Kalmadi Shamarao Junior College organized the session ‘Speak a Book’ for the students of std. XI and XII on account of ‘Vachan Prerana Diwas’ being celebrated every year on 15th October to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of our former President Late. Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam.

This year,the activity was conducted on 14thOctober 2023 and was based on the theme ‘VIVIDHATA : Diversity’.
The objective of the session was to give students the platform to express their views about the books that they have read.
Students also expressed how have the books benefited them and have brought transformation or change in their lives.
Total 17 students participated in the activity.

The event also consisted of the quiz related to books, the book characters and the authors. There were prizes for the audience on answering the quiz.

Dr. Madhuri Chittewan, Principal, appreciated student’s efforts and their enthusiastic participation in the event. She also expressed her happy feelings to see students reading such different genres and sharing about the books so confidently.
She also mentioned that it’s good to find students opting for the hard copies of the books in spite of having an option of e- books. She wished the progressive growth of the Reading Club with more participants.

Mrs. Ashwini Sarpotdar, Librarian expressed her views about initiating ‘Readers Club’ in college and also about the Vachan Prerana Diwas activity.

This session was all about getting inspired to read and also inspiring others to read.
The books included were ‘Midnight’s Children’, ‘To kill a mocking Bird’, ‘Merchant of Venice’, ‘Girl in Pieces’, ‘Crime and Punishment’, ‘Alchemist’, ‘You can Sell’, ‘Not without my daughter’, ‘The 48 Laws of Power’, ‘Wonder’, ‘Old man and the Sea’, ‘Chanakya and the Art of war’ and some Marathi books like‘Arthat’ by Achyut Godbole, ‘Kar Har Maidan Fateh’ by IAS officer Vishwas Nangare Patil.
