Work Life Balance 2024

Often, work takes precedence over everything else in our lives. Our desire to succeed professionally can push us to set aside our own well-being. Creating a harmonious work-life balance or work-life integration is critical, though, to improve not only our physical, emotional and mental well-being, but also to succeed in our career. For teachers too at times, the schedules, meetings, being constantly approachable for students turns out to be an overwhelming experience.

 

To talk about the same, we had invited Mr. Anand Kulkarni, a coach, corporate trainer and a psychologist. The session took place on 10th April 2024. The session was interactive began in a story format. A story of Mr. Anand and his friend, who went on a road trip to Ladakh and Kashmir when they were young. The story had following learnings.

  • Your perspective will decide whether you are in heaven or a hell.
  • It is difficult to change the situation but its manageable to change the perspective.
  • Our brain just knows the equation that certain things make me feel happy. Here he introduced a term – Expectations. If they are met we are happy; if not, we lead an unhappy life.
  • The brain does not know if these expectations are right, wrong, ethical or are unethical. It just knows to be happy if they are fulfilled.

So he spoke about SET technique, wherein

  • S- Supply: supply of knowledge, information, skills
  • E- Expectations
  • T- Thinking

So, in life we must Increase our supply, adjust our expectations and Change thinking.

 

He also stated a few thumb rules:

People are patterns: If we carefully observe, we will see that all of us behave in certain patterns and slowly these patterns start controlling us. Hence, shifting expectations according to the patterns will allow us to accept and think logically and not emotionally.

 

I am not a joker – I am not here to please others. We all are here to live our life and make choices. Hence, it is very important to take a practical approach about our expectations and think realistically.

 

Deal Making – Negotiations play a very crucial role. Many situations worsen as we do not communicate and people continue to suffer for years.

 

CATA – Change Your Attention, as on what you focus on will change your life. Everything in life always has alternate powerful thinking. So change your Thoughts and take Action- be a part of the solution.

 

The session was very interactive as it was full of real life examples which everyone could connect with. The session was appreciated by many.
