A session on anger management was conducted for 12th graders today, aiming to equip them with essential life skills to handle emotions effectively.
Topics covered in the session – The following topics were covered in the session;
- Common Myths about Aggression: We debunked misconceptions like “anger is always bad” or “anger is a sign of weakness”. Students understood that anger is a natural emotion and can be managed.
- Iceberg Model of Anger: We explored how anger is often a surface-level emotion masking underlying feelings like hurt, fear, or frustration. This helped students identify their own anger patterns.
- Anger as a Habit: Students recognized how anger can become a habitual response and learned ways to break the cycle by becoming more aware of their thoughts and emotions.
- Science behind Anger: We discussed the bodily (physiological), emotional, cognitive, and behavioural aspects of anger, helping students understand its impact on overall well-being.
- Triggers of Anger: Students identified personal triggers and learned strategies to manage them effectively. The different types of triggers were explained to students like, verbal, non-verbal or physical.
- ABCD of Anger: We covered the Antecedent, Behaviour, Consequence, and Dispute model, enabling students to analyse and manage anger situations better.
- Anger Management Techniques: Practical strategies like deep breathing, relaxation, and assertiveness, timeout technique, sharing with friends, journaling was shared with the students.
- Demo of Thought Stopping Technique: Students experienced a hands-on demo of this technique to control anger and manage intrusive thoughts.
The session was interactive, engaging, and informative, helping students gain insights into managing anger effectively. The session received a very positive feedback. The written feedback of the students was taken at the end of the session.
