Facilitator(s): Inhouse team

Duration: 75 minutes

Objective

To provide students with an opportunity to reflect on their achievements, discuss current academic and personal challenges, and identify areas where they would benefit from further support during their Grade 12 year.

Session Overview

An interactive circle discussion was conducted to understand the needs and experiences of gifted students as they navigate the demands of Grade 12. The session began with students sharing achievements they were proud of and the factors that contributed to their success. This was followed by a discussion on the academic, extracurricular, and personal demands they currently face.

Students were encouraged to reflect on challenges that hinder their performance and well-being. Common themes that emerged included balancing multiple responsibilities, managing academic workload, maintaining motivation, dealing with distractions, overthinking, procrastination and coping with pressure related to future goals and examinations.

The discussion concluded with students identifying skills and habits that would support their success during the academic year. Time management, effective study strategies, organization, consistency, and stress management were frequently highlighted as areas of need.

Key Observations

  • Many reported difficulties in balancing competing academic and personal commitments.
  • Time management and effective study habits emerged as common areas requiring support.
  • Students expressed interest in practical strategies that would help them work more efficiently and achieve their goals.

Conclusion and Follow-Up

The session will lead to a specialised session that would provide valuable insights into the needs of gifted Grade 12 students. Based on the themes that emerged, future sessions will focus on developing effective study skills, time management strategies, and other practical tools to support academic success and overall well-being.
