Introduction
A comprehensive session was conducted for the gifted students of Grade XI with the objective of enhancing their collaborative, creative, and personal development skills. The session aimed to engage students in meaningful group activities while also introducing them to the importance of self-awareness as a key component of academic and personal growth. The programme was structured in two major segments: (1) group-based task activities and (2) a focused session on self-awareness.
Group Activity Session
The first segment of the programme involved dividing the students into groups. They were instructed to work collaboratively on three thematic tasks that they will be responsible for in the coming months.
1. Podcast Development
Students were asked to form the group and brainstorm and decide on a podcast concept, including topic selection, script planning, and role allocation. Each group was encouraged to determine who would host, write, edit, and manage the technical aspects of the podcast. This aimed to refine their leadership, articulation, and organisational abilities.
2. Social Media Engagement
The second task centred on social media outreach. Students were guided to develop ideas for meaningful and responsible online content sharing. The objective was to help them understand the impact of digital communication and how social platforms can be used constructively for information dissemination and public engagement. The students will plan the content to be uploaded on Facebook/ LinkedIn (either of the two), YouTube and Instagram.
3. Community Outreach through Social Activities
For the third task, the groups discussed practical ways to reach out to the community through small but meaningful social activities. This included identifying community needs, planning service-oriented actions, and proposing methods of implementation. The activity was intended to cultivate social responsibility, and teamwork.
Students were encouraged to participate equally across all three tasks. The facilitators ensured active involvement and guided them in brainstorming innovative ideas.
Session on Self-Awareness
The second segment of the programme focused on the theme of self-awareness, an essential quality for gifted learners. Session began by explaining the concept of self-awareness, highlighting its relevance in understanding one’s strengths, weaknesses, emotions, and behavioural patterns.
The students were briefed on the significance of self-awareness in improving productivity and overall performance.
Students shared their thoughts about the need to reflect, the need to have dreams and also put in a lot of hard work to achieve their goals and dreams. It was emphasised that students who are aware of their learning styles, motivations, and personal triggers are better equipped to manage time, set realistic goals, and face academic challenges with confidence. Examples of successful people like Shahrukh Khan, Elon musk and Albert Einstein were provided to demonstrate how self-awareness contributes to better decision-making, enhanced emotional regulation, and effective interpersonal relationships.
The session also elaborated on the long-term benefits of developing self-awareness, including improved academic focus, resilience, and the ability to reflect constructively on experiences. A short self-rated questionnaire was also administered during the session to help students reflect on their individual thinking patterns. After completing it, they were encouraged to “put on their thinking hats” and analyse their responses with deeper insight. This activity further supported the objective of enhancing self-awareness among the participants. Students will be posting their strengths and weaknesses to us.
The session concluded with the screening of the short film “Piper,” which conveyed theme of creating joy. Students shared their reflections such as – if you give joy – you get it back; if you give, you receive; Make Joy happen; help others; Create joy and happiness, relating the film’s message to their own experiences. This activity provided a thoughtful and inspiring end to the session.
