About the activity:-
An interactive session led by Mrs. Ashwini Sarpotdar, the librarian at KSJC, focused on “Critical Encapsulation of Stories.” Students were organized into six groups for the activity. After introducing the activity, Mrs. Sarpotdar narrated two Akbar-Birbal stories and one Vikram-Betal tale.
After each story, students were encouraged to step into Birbal’s shoes and were asked how they would approach and tackle the situation or solve the problem narrated in the story if they were in Birbal’s position. Each group came up with different answers with unique solutions and justifications thus fostering a deeper analysis of Akbar’s dilemmas and Birbal’s clever resolutions.
Following this, the original solutions from the stories were shared.
In a Vikram Betal story, a question posed by Betal to King Vikramaditya was presented to the students. Their varied responses to the question fostered creative thinking and encouraged imaginative exploration.
Students were asked to discuss the moral of each of the stories and their real life application. Additionally, students were introduced to an Acronym – ‘BIRBAL’ as a problem solving tool.
Learning outcome –
- Students connected deeply with the tales and found enjoyment in them.
- They were sufficiently challenged to think critically and devise their own solutions.
- Their verbal ability and oratory skills were effectively utilized.
- Students’ engagement in a discussion about the moral lessons of the tales and their relevance to real-life situations enhanced collaboration within the group.
