River-bank Cleanliness Drive by Kalam Centre

 

The students of KSJC Kalam Centre organized an activity initiating the importance of river conservation. The members of Kalam Centre, along with the members of ‘Jeevitnadi Foundation’ took part in a river-bank cleanliness drive.

 

The activity was held on 14/01/2024, at the banks of river Mutha, near Vitthalwadi.

 

The volunteers of Jeevitnadi gave descriptive information about Mutha river, biological factors of rivers, the species found in river water etc. Mythological and historical facts about the origin of the rivers in Pune were narrated by Ashwini ma’am (leader of Jeevitnadi) which were enjoyed by everyone.

 

RJ Sangram, the pinnacle personality of the day engaged in an enthusiastic conversation with the students, providing information regarding bane of latest city development plans, including Riverfront Development schemes (RFDs) and measures to prevent the assault of rivers caused by the population.

 

Many people who regularly walk near river Mutha also joined in due to the attractive facts and informative advice given by the volunteers of Jeevitnadi community.

 

All the students took part in the cleanliness drive. Garbage near the river side was collected, containing everything from paper waste to glass bottles and earthen pots. Photos were clicked with posters giving messages of River cleanliness and importance of River in our environment.

 

This initiative by the students underlined the importance of Health and Hygiene, one of the core pillars of the centre. The Kalam members left the riverside with satisfaction, and determination to maintain river biodiversity and inspiring others to do so.
