Being Mindful 2023

The counselling unit, under Aastha, The Psychology Club, in house counsellor Ms. Smita Pradhan conducted a module on Being Mindfully aware of your actions for Junior College students on 17th October 2023.

The session began with knowing what do we mean by being Mindful. It was explained as being attentive, aware, or careful of one’s responsibilities and actions. This was related to Mindfulness technique but nothing or relating to the mindful observation of one’s experiences and actions and behaviour.

The session began with an ice breaker, which created confusion in their minds and therefore the actions went wrong. Post this, the students were divided into small groups and real life situations were given to them seeking them to analyse the situation and think of the positive outcome of the situation. This exercise encouraged them to open up and unfold their own inhibitions. This practice helped to increase their ability to regulate emotions, decrease stress and anxiety.
It also helped them to focus their attention, as well as to observe their thoughts and feelings without any judgment.
This gave them a different perspective of looking at things, so that they are aware of their own actions and behaviour. Meanwhile, the topics like self doubt, self image, making a conscious choice, peer influence, dealing with pressures etc. were also dealt with.
The session was a success as students enjoyed the same and participated fearlessly in the discussion.
