The students of Dr Kalmadi Shamarao Junior College, Kalam Centre conducted their first activity, “Zest for Zero Waste: A Paper Waste Collection Drive”. It comes under one of the four major pillars of Kalam i.e., Creativity and innovation
The activity was held on two days, 9th & 10th of October.
Students of Kalmadi Shamarao Junior College and Senior College, as well as the high school were requested to participate in this activity.
The students contributed by collecting old newspapers, used books, unwanted papers, cardboard boxes and files etc. to the collection venue. The paper and cardboard waste was sent to ‘Inner Wheel organization of Khadki’ – a non-profit organization (NPO). A whooping 40-50 kilograms of waste over the two days.
This NPO will hand over the materials to the ‘Little Leaf Company’ who will recycle them into books. These books (lined and squared) will later be distributed to underprivileged schools and children and those in need.
The Kalam students started their journey with a brilliant activity which was a huge success.
