An informal session was organized for parents of the identified gifted students on 11th March 2023 on the college premises.
It was in November that we organized the orientation session for the parents that touched upon the characteristics and the parenting styles of the parents for their identified gifted wards. After the residential camp, INSPIRE, and a few sessions with students, we also wanted to understand from parents if they have concerns that need to be addressed as it’s really a challenge at hand for parents to deal with the emotional and social needs of the gifted. The intention was to create a space for parents, know each other, get them talking, and share the strategies that might are working for some.
It was planned by the students for their parents, along with a few ice-breaking games and then it was facilitated and redirected by the gifted facilitators and Principal Madam Dr. Madhuri Chittewan. Being a parent of a gifted son herself, Dr. Madhuri shared valuable insights with respect to parenting the gifted. She emphasized the role of parents but clarified that the responsibility still lies with the child. The parents also shared many concerns like – limiting screen time, having a meaningful conversations with their wards, etc.
The overall response was overwhelming and the session was very well received by parents.
