A donation drive was organized by Dr. Kalmadi Shamarao Junior College students of Kalam Centre in Savali Orphanage of Bhusari colony at Kothrud. 16 students of STD XII along with 2 teachers under the guidance of the Principal Dr. Madhuri Chittewan had performed this activity. The motive behind this noble act was to understand the lifestyle and needs of these physically challenged individuals as well as the Orphans.
“Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much” is what made them initiate to do this act. The idea was implemented by putting up an appeal on the notice board, asking for donation of unused stationary things like pens, pencils etc. from the junior college students of KSJC itself and the result was a fruitful one as there was a tremendous response shown by them in contributing for a good deed. The drive went on for 3 days in the college. Collection of the things and then segregating them to deliver at sharp 12.30pm in the orphanage was their motive. Chocolates and biscuits were an additional part of the donation to spread happiness amongst these exceptional children.
On this auspicious day of Aashadhi Ekadashi, all of them dressed in Ethnic wear, the students were also a part of the celebration organized by the orphanage’s Incharge. All of them enjoyed this Wari though it was drizzling. Conversations with these children enlightened the students and made them realize that life is not full of roses but harsh for some of them. The cheerful atmosphere of the orphanage developed a positive energy in the students.
When it was time to say good bye to these young minds, two students of kalam centre sang spiritual melodious songs for them and the happiness they could see on the faces of these orphans was immeasurable.
“Kindness is the language which a deaf can hear and the blind can see” was proved by the kalam centre students again.
