With the aim of fostering social responsibility and nurturing the values of compassion, generosity, and community service among students, the Dr. Kalmadi Shamarao Junior College organized a Grain Donation Drive from 15th August to 3rd September. The initiative was undertaken by the Kalam Centre as a part of its commitment to serving society and supporting the underprivileged.
The drive was launched on 15th August, inspiring students to express acts of kindness and service. A digital flyer containing the details of the drive, the list of grains to be donated, and the collection schedule was circulated through the Official Class WhatsApp groups to ensure that every student was informed about the campaign and encouraged to participate.
The Electronics Laboratory was designated as the central collection point, where students deposited their grain donations throughout the campaign.
During the initial days, the response from students was comparatively low. Realizing the need for greater awareness, the dedicated volunteers of the Kalam Centre took the initiative to personally visit every classroom and practical laboratory. They interacted with students, explained the purpose and significance of the drive, and encouraged everyone to contribute according to their capacity. Their enthusiasm, sincere efforts, and repeated announcements motivated many more students to participate, resulting in a remarkable increase in donations during the final weeks of the campaign.
The Grain Donation Drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across different streams of the Junior College. Every contribution, irrespective of its quantity, reflected the student’s willingness to support those in need. The collective effort demonstrated that small acts of generosity, when combined, can create a significant social impact.
At the end of the campaign, the following food grains were collected:
| Food Grain | Quantity Collected |
|---|---|
| Rice | 23 kg |
| Moong Dal | 10.5 kg |
| Tur Dal | 2.3 kg |
| Sugar | 18.5 kg |
| Oil | 840 gm |
| Turmeric | 200 gm |
After the successful completion of the drive, all the collected food grains were weighed with the help of supporting staff and donated to the Boy’s Hostel at Shileshwar Male Village on 10/10/2026. The donation was made with the intention of supporting the daily nutritional requirements of the hostel students. The hostel authorities gratefully accepted the contribution and appreciated the thoughtful initiative taken by the Junior College students.
The Grain Donation Drive was much more than a donation campaign; it was a meaningful learning experience that helped students understand the importance of empathy, social responsibility, and collective action. The campaign reinforced the idea that every individual can contribute towards building a more caring and compassionate society.
The success of this initiative was made possible through the wholehearted cooperation of the students, the guidance and encouragement of the teaching staff, supporting staff and the tireless efforts of the Kalam Centre volunteers, who worked diligently throughout the campaign. Their dedication transformed a modest beginning into a successful community outreach programme, making the Grain Donation Drive a memorable and impactful initiative of the academic year.
