The 80th Independence Day of India was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit on 15 August 2026 at the Ganesh Nagar Campus, collectively by Kaveri College, Dr. Kalmadi Shamarao Junior College, and Kalmadi High School. The programme was organized by the Junior College to commemorate India’s Independence and to inspire students to uphold the values of patriotism, responsibility, honesty, discipline, and national unity.
The occasion was graced by Chief Guest Shri Kushal Hegde, President, Kannada Sangha; Dr. Narayan Hegde, Vice President, Kannada Sangha; Mrs. Radhika Sharma, Joint Treasurer, Kannada Sangha; Mrs. Sumati Shrinivasan, Head Admin, Kannada Sangha; Dr. Jayashree Bangali; Mrs. Pallavi Naik; Dr. Mukta Karmarkar, Principal, Kaveri College; and Mrs. Anjali Kulkarni, Principal, KHS Ganesh Nagar.
The programme commenced with the unfurling of the National Flag by the Chief Guest, Shri Kushal Hegde. This was followed by a rendition of “Vande Mataram” by the students of KHS Ganesh Nagar and the National Anthem.
The students and staff subsequently took the National Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to the nation and its values. Special oaths were also administered to the students on “Nasha Mukti” (freedom from addiction) and “Copy Mukti” in Examinations (freedom from cheating). These initiatives emphasized the importance of leading a healthy, responsible, and honest life while maintaining integrity in academic pursuits.
Dr. Narayan Hegde, Guest of Honour, addressed the gathering and spoke about the significance of Independence Day, the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters, and the responsibilities of citizens, particularly the younger generation, towards the nation. His inspiring address encouraged everyone to contribute positively to society and become responsible citizens.
The celebration concluded with a patriotic song performed by the students. Their enthusiastic performance created an atmosphere of pride, unity, and patriotism among all those present.
The Independence Day celebration was a meaningful and memorable occasion. It not only commemorated the freedom of our nation but also reinforced essential values such as patriotism, honesty, discipline, integrity, and social responsibility among the students.
