Industrial Visit to Khatri Bandhu Ice Cream Factory

Date: June 27, 2026

Organized by: Dr. Kalmadi Shamarao Junior College’s Swayam – The Start-Up Spirits

In an endeavor to bridge theoretical entrepreneurial concepts with industrial operations, the students of Swayam – The Start-Up Spirits undertook an industrial visit to the manufacturing unit of Khatri Bandhu Ice Cream. The excursion provided a comprehensive, behind-the-scenes exposition of large-scale dairy processing and the mechanics of a thriving indigenous enterprise.

21 students accompanied by Mrs. Ashwini Sarpotdar, In charge- Swayam Team visited the manufacturing plant.

The itinerary commenced with a guided walkthrough of the core processing unit, where the students were introduced to the vital mechanics of the milk pasteurization machinery, the churner, the pasteurized liquid mixer and aeration & freezing containers.

The plant supervisor explained how thermal processing guarantees microbiological safety while preserving the structural integrity of the dairy base.

We saw the freshly made ice cream flow out of the machine into a box which was then placed in a freezer to allow the ice cream to set.

The latter half of the technical tour focused on the supply chain. Students were granted access to the cold storage unit, a sophisticated cryogenic repository engineered to maintain optimal sub-zero thresholds, ensuring product stabilization.

The owner, Mr. Rahul Khatri, shared the inspiring journey of Khatri Bandhu, tracing its evolution from a modest local venture to a well-established contemporary brand. He spoke about the challenges faced during the company’s formative years, the precautions necessary for running a successful business, and the importance of adhering to industry regulations. His insights and experiences were truly inspiring.

The proprietor addressed the diverse queries raised by the budding entrepreneurs of Swayam with exemplary clarity, touching upon subjects ranging from supply chain resilience to market differentiation.

The industrial visit concluded on a note of gratitude thanking Mr. Khatri for granting permission for the visit. As a token of mutual respect and appreciation for fostering this academic and industrial synergy, the hosts organized a warm reception for us with a treat of delicious organic mango ice cream, a bouquet alongside a lovely painting of Shivaji Maharaj.
