Session Overview:
The session, conducted by Mrs. Rashmi Deshmukh, covered following points with the help of PPT and open discussion among the participants.
- Definition and spectrum of human sexuality.
- Understanding of human sexuality as a natural part of life.
- Recognition of diversity in sexual orientation and gender identity.
- Puberty and adolescent development.
- History of Human sexuality
- Legal developments in the field
Summary of the session:
The session began with the discussion on what is the difference between gender role, gender identity and sextual orientation. The facilitator then talked about puberty and how the changes in the puberty are responsible for developing crushes. The facilitator also talked about various positive and negative consequences of these crushes (parasocical relationships).
The facilitator also talked about LGBTIQ community and its historical background in India and west. The session also talked about the role of media in promoting or undervaluing the importance of inclusion of these communities and various myths that are associated with it.
The facilitators also talked about the various ways that can help this community to come out of the issues and what repercussion it can have psychologically. The session also talked about the legalities that are involved and the history of various provisions that are created in law to protect the right of LGBTIQ community.
The session successfully provided a safe and informative space for students to discuss human sexuality. By promoting healthy attitudes and behaviours, we can empower young adults to make informed decisions and foster a culture of inclusiveness and empathy.
