Workshop on Self Defense Techniques for Girls

A workshop on Self Defense Techniques for girls was arranged by Women’s Forum Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Pune on Saturday 5 October, 2019. Mrs. Rachana Dhopeshwar, Gold Medalist, Commonwealth and National Judo Coach was the Resource Person for the workshop who was accompanied by her team comprising of Ms. Rucha Dhopeshwar, International Judo Player who also holds fifth place in Asia, Ms. Gautami Kanchan Commonwealth Silver Medalist, Mr. Aditya Dhopavkar Commonwealth Silver Medalist and Ms. Piyusha Dhamale National Judo Player. The workshop began with a welcome address by Mrs. Pooja Ambole, Chairperson Women’s Forum followed by an inaugural address by Dr. Ashok Agrawal, Principal, Kaveri College. Dr. Muckta Karmarkar, Vice Principal, Faculty members and students were present for the same.
 
Mrs. Rachana Dhopeshwar in her session shared some words of wisdom and said that self defense does not only mean defending oneself from robbery and sexual harassment but also preventing physical damage caused as a result of accidents. The workshop focused on Techniques of falling, Techniques of Self Defense during Accidents and Self Defense from Robbery and Sexual harassment. It included the demonstration of various types of jumps and measures to balance weight while jumping, to choke a wind pipe and to slip from a tight grip in case of severe attack and similar other techniques of defeating the attacker. It was tightly packed with numerous such demonstrations. Besides, it was a practical session involving the participants’ active participation. It was concluded by a question answer round. Twenty two girls benefited from this session.
