Inclusive Education at Kaveri International School

The Kaveri Group of schools have always pioneered in introducing programmes and services that cater to different needs of individual students. We believe in the inclusive education model and modify our programs and services to meet the diverse needs of student be it those with disabilities or for those who have superior intellectual ability. Our team of counselors, special educators and gifted educators work to ensure that children receive support and encouragement as per their needs. We practice the Individual Education Plan that customizes the curriculum and offers modifications to all children with Special Needs.

Addressing Needs of Gifted Children

As part of Inclusive Education, the Kaveri Group of Institutes inaugurated Kaveri Gifted Education Center in 2014 to identify gifted children and nurture their potential. We define giftedness as superior intellectual ability, measured by standardized I.Q. tests. Our range of services include assessments and counselling for gifted children, courses in gifted education for teachers and parents and in-class enrichment activities as well as pull-out programs for the children.

Kaveri International School will identify gifted children at a young age with the help of KGEC. For this all teachers at KIS will receive training in supporting needs of gifted children in the classroom as well as an advanced curriculum will be designed to meet the academic needs of these children. Special classes and programs will also be offered to develop essential life skills and support the socio-emotional needs of gifted children. The three-fold program has been summarized below.

Addressing needs of Children with Learning Disabilities

The Kaveri International School offers remedial services for students with learning difficulties and learning differences. Special educators design Individualized Education Plans (IEP) customized to each child’s needs and provide remedial interventions for the children. The process involves the following steps:

  • Identification: Children struggling with academics are screened with the help of teachers and counselors. A detailed assessment is conducted to understand the child’s strengths and gaps in learning. An IEP is designed on this basis. The IEP is reviewed intermittently and provides a measure of progress.
  • Remedial Intervention: The intervention focuses on enhancing skills in the core academic areas of reading, writing and math. The special educator constantly works with the child, teacher and parent to meet the child’s needs and communicates the child’s progress to all stake holders regularly.

Addressing the Socio-emotional needs of Children- (Counselling Unit)

As Don Brown said, “All children should be taught to unconditionally accept, approve, admire, appreciate, forgive, trust, and ultimately, love their own person. “Our school counselors provide counseling programs in three domains: academic, career and personal/social. Their services and programs help students resolve emotional, social or behavioral problems and help them develop a clearer focus or sense of direction. We ensure that children learn important life skills and reach their potential in a motivating and caring environment. Our trained counsellors empower students, staff members and parents through continuous developmental and preventive programs to face the challenges of the 21st century. Aptitude testing and career guidance is also offered by the Counselling Unit to all children at Std X and XII level to help them make the right higher education and career choices. We also provide excellent individual and group counselling sessions to enable the stakeholders to rise above their difficulties. Our final aim is to create students who are confident, creative, empathetic and most of all happy.
